Statements of Support

National Recommendations for User-Applied Labeling of Injectable Medicines, Fluids and Lines

The Council of Australian Therapeutic Advisory Groups (CATAG) congratulates the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care on producing the National Recommendations for User-applied Labeling of Injectable Medicines, Fluids and Lines
External Link

Inadequate labeling of injectable medicines, fluids and lines is a recognised source of harm to hospitalised patients in Australia and internationally and labeling errors have contributed to patient deaths. CATAG supports standardisation of labeling practices and widespread use of these recommendations across Australia as a mechanism for contributing to improved patient safety in Australian hospitals. CATAG encourages hospital administrators, Drug and Therapeutics Committees and clinicians with responsibilities for medication safety and quality to implement these recommendations within their institutions.
